At OdataLink, we’re continually looking for ways to improve both performance and efficiency for our customers. Over the coming weeks, we will be rolling out a series of optimisations designed to deliver faster response times while making more efficient use of Xero data.
What is changing?
For selected accounts, we will be enabling our archive functionality. This enhancement allows requests that fall within defined archive parameters to be served from cache, rather than retrieving the same information directly from Xero each time.
In simple terms, if data has already been retrieved and falls within the archive rules, OdataLink can intelligently serve that information from its own cache instead of making another call to Xero Live.
Why are we doing this?
There are two key benefits:
Improved Performance
Serving archived data from cache is typically much faster than retrieving the same information from a live source. This means many reports and refreshes can complete more quickly, improving the overall user experience.
Reduced Unnecessary Data Usage
Following Xero’s introduction of charges based on data downloaded through their platform, efficient use of API calls has become increasingly important. By avoiding unnecessary requests for historical information that rarely changes, we can significantly reduce data consumption while maintaining the same reporting outcomes.
Will this affect my data?
No. The archive functionality is designed to preserve data accuracy while optimising how that data is retrieved. Current and frequently changing information will continue to be sourced from Xero Live, while older or less frequently accessed data may be served from cache.
The goal is to deliver the same information more efficiently, not to change the data available to you.
Will anything change on my side?
For most customers, there will be no visible changes other than improved performance.
These optimisations will be introduced progressively over the coming weeks. No action is required from customers, and we will continue to monitor performance and make further enhancements where appropriate.
Where we believe enabling archive functionality would provide significant benefit to a particular account, we will communicate directly with those customers and provide additional information.
