Get Xero data into Excel the easy way, using OdataLink.
Xero OData feed provider for Excel
OdataLink is an OData feed provider that shapes the data from Xero into a format that can readily be used by Excel. It does this without the need for any external software, additional setup or complex programming.
OdataLink is compatible with most versions of Excel:
- Excel 2010 and 2013 (with the Microsoft Power Query addin)
- Excel 2016 and 2019
- Office 365
With OdataLink, accessing your data is as simple as copying a URL and selecting the endpoints to retrieve. This approach completely bypasses the need for databases and data warehouses. Your data can be directly manipulated within Excel using Power Query.
In fact, OdataLink provides a live link to your data. In addition, any filtering or sorting is sent directly to Xero for processing.

Simple and Expanded endpoints
In addition, for some endpoints, OdataLink provides two types. A simple endpoint and an expanded endpoint. This new concept is specific to Xero and the Xero API.
The simple endpoint (e.g. Invoices) provide a quick way to get all general data in one single request.
Alternatively, the expanded endpoint (e.g. InvoicesExpanded) includes additional data (e.g. Lines). In addition, OdataLink returns the data in increments of 100 records. Excel automates this completely automates this process behind the scene. This affords a more responsive process to downloading data for larger data sets.
While both types of endpoints aim to provide the same date, allowing two different ways to query it allows you to choose how to optimise your reports.
Simple and Expanded endpoints are available for :
- BankTransactions
- Contacts
- CreditNotes
- Invoices
- ManualJournals
- Overpayments
- Prepayments
