OdataLink Fair Use Policy

1. Purpose

OdataLink is designed to support standard analytical, reporting, and business intelligence activities by retrieving data from Data Files on your behalf. This process incurs costs that is proportional to the volume of data downloaded. This Fair Use Policy ensures that cost remains predictable across the platform by governing:

  • What your Monthly Data Allowance is
  • How your Monthly Data Usage is measured
  • What constitutes excessive use
  • How we respond to excessive use including the basis for excess usage pricing in cases where standard optimisation is ineffective or inapplicable

2. Monthly Data Allowance

OdataLink provides a Monthly Data Allowance that varies according to your data file licenses and status.

  • Paid and Complimentary Subscriptions : Includes a Monthly Data Allowance of 2 GB per licensed data file based on your billing period.
  • Free Edition: Includes a Monthly Data Allowance of 250 MB total per account based on the calendar month.
  • Trial: Includes a Monthly Data Allowance of 2 GB per data file.

3. Monthly Data Usage

Any data downloaded from your data file through OdataLink is tracked and contributes towards your Monthly Data Usage.

This includes but not limited to:

  • Data retrieved by reporting or business intelligence tools connected via OData (e.g., Power BI, Excel)
  • Scheduled and manual data refreshes
  • Full and incremental data synchronizations

Note that any data sourced from OdataLink’s Archive is excluded from your Monthly Data Usage.

4. Excessive Use

If your Monthly Data Usage exceeds or is likely to exceed your Monthly Data Allowance, you will be in breach of the Fair Use Policy.

In those cases, OdataLink may:

  • Contact you to provide guidance to reduce your excessive use.
  • Configure and optimise settings on your behalf.
  • Offer you to purchase additional monthly data allowance credits (purchase extra data usage credits, once-off or recurring)
  • Suspend or cancel your account
  • Deactivate your overused model

4.1. Guidance to remedy excessive use

In some cases, OdataLink will provide guidance to reduce your excessive use. Guidance may include advice on but not limited to:

  • Adjusting refresh schedules to reduce unnecessary data retrieval
  • Switching to incremental or delta-based synchronization
  • Applying date ranges or data filters to limit the volume retrieved per refresh
  • Archiving historical data that does not need to be refreshed frequently
  • Reviewing and correcting inefficient tool or connector configuration

4.2. Optimisation to remedy excessive use

In some cases, OdataLink may configure and optimise settings on your behalf in order to avoid any accidental breach of the Fair Use Policy.

4.3. Purchase of Additional Monthly Data Allowance Credits

In some cases, OdataLink may offer you to purchase Additional Monthly Data Allowance Credits to cover costs of providing the service. Any such offer will be:

  • Presented in writing with clear terms, including the revised monthly subscription price
  • Subject to your acceptance before taking effect

You may decline this offer and either continue working to reduce your usage or cancel your subscription in accordance with the OdataLink End User License Agreement.

4.4. Suspension or Cancellation

OdataLink reserves the right to suspend or cancel your OdataLink Subscription or Trial if a breach of Fair use policy occurs.

5. Changes to This Policy

OdataLink reserves the right to update this Policy at any time. Material changes will be communicated to account holders by email before taking effect. Continued use of OdataLink after the effective date of a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
